*** Disease Update - 22 July *** From KY..... Bill Nesmith informs us that the disease activity in KY is still light, but new activity is increasing rapidly. New sporulation is being reported from about 10 counties, most of which are in south-central and southeast KY. From NC.... Steve Duckett informs us that blue mold was discovered this weekend in Buncombe County in the central NC mountains. Moderate disease activity is present in two small fields.
*** Disease Update - 19 July *** Blue mold has been discovered in the central NC mountains. Paul Shoemaker informs us that blue mold has been confirmed in Haywood County, NC. One 3/4 acre field of burley tobacco is 100% infected with severe damage on the lower half of the plants. Old lesions are present, recent weather has been favorable, and strong sporulation is occurring from fresh lesions. He estimates disease has been active here for 3 to 4 weeks. Trajectories from this source site will be added to the forecasts.
***** The Weather.......Partly cloudy, hot, and humid for the eastern U.S. on Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, dry in the Northeast and upper mid-Atlantic regions. Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms are possible elsewhere. On Tuesday.... a cold front now in the Great Lakes and Midwest will impact the Northeast, upper mid-Atlantic, and Ohio Valley regions. Showers and thunderstorms will be likely near the front. Scattered shower activity is expected in the lower mid-Atlantic states, southern Appalachian Mountains, and the Southeast. Highs in the 80's and 90's, lows in the 60's and 70's. Extended Forecast: The cold front will stall off the coast of the Northeast and stretch southwestward through the mid-Atlantic states. Dry north and west; continued daily shower activity elsewhere.
