2 August 2002 Blue Mold Forecasts

*** Disease Update - 2 August *** We have the first report of blue mold from southern Ohio. Blue mold has been discovered in Brown County in southwest Ohio. This questionable outbreak occurred in the middle of a 6-acre field. The Brown County extension agent indicates that while much of the county has been dry for quite some time, this area has received enough moisture from isolated showers to support rapid plant growth. Given the unfavorable weather in this area so far this season and the one lone outbreak of questionable strength, we will not be producing a forecast trajectory from this new site at this time. It's presence will be included in the forecast analysis. Should disease activity intensify, we will add a trajectory site for this area at a later date.

*** Disease Update - 31 July *** Blue mold has been discovered in southern Canada. Disease has been confirmed in Oxford County near the town of Princeton in southern Ontario, Canada. New, active lesions were found in a small area of one field near a wooded area. The field has been topped, and lesions were found only on the lower leaves of the plants. We are adding this source to the forecasts.
