FORECAST SUMMARY: Friday, April 12:
*** Disease Update - 12 April: We have received the first report of blue mold from North Carolina *** Blue mold has been discovered in greenhouses in Franklin County, in east-central NC. One greenhouse has shown symptoms for two weeks or longer. Plants have been treated with Acrobat since the first lesions were observed. Both old and new lesions are present in this source of moderate strength. Some plants are being transplanted, and treatment with Acrobat continues. With this new discovery, we are dropping our foreign sites from the forecast rotation. As always, we will inform you if significant events are expected from these areas.
*** Unsettled weather is expected in the eastern U.S. for the entire weekend *** High pressure is pumping warm, moist air into the region. A cold front will be moving into the Ohio Valley and Northeast, then stalling. Skies will be mostly cloudy much of the time, with a chance of showers for most areas each day. In the Southeast...... Friday and Saturday trajectories move northwest and north, affecting the TN and OH river valleys. On Friday.... HIGH RISK near the source areas. Strongly Moderate Risk for northern AL and central and eastern TN. Moderate Risk for southern AL and southeast KY. On Saturday... HIGH RISK near the source areas. Strongly Moderate Risk for northern GA, western NC, and eastern and northeast TN. Moderate Risk for eastern KY, extreme SW VA, southeast OH, and WV. Low Risk otherwise. For the NC source..... trajectories flow north and northeast Friday and Saturday. On Friday and Saturday... Strongly Moderate Risk for north-central NC and south-central VA, Moderate Risk for MD and PA. Low Risk for southern New England for Friday's event, but Moderate Risk for southern New England for Saturday's event. On Sunday..... preliminary trajectories indicate spore transport to the northeast from both source regions. Conditions will be more favorable for disease development on Sunday than Monday, so the greater risks will be found near the sources. Strongly Moderate Risk for northern FL, southern GA, east-central NC, and southeast VA. Moderate Risk for SC and MD. Low Risk otherwise.
*** Extended Outlook: Scattered afternoon showers are expected on Monday. A drying trend should begin on Tuesday ***

We do not have the capability to ascertain blue mold development by other means, such as transplanting of infected seedlings, nor will we attempt to do so.
