FORECAST SUMMARY: Friday, May 11:
*** Disease Update - 11 May *** We have a blue mold report from NC. Tom Melton reports that blue mold was discovered in a field in southern Nash County, near the town of Bailey. Infected plants were scattered near adjacent corners of two small fields. No sporulation was observed and the grower will apply Acrobat immediately. This is very weak source. Since the reports from eastern Wake, southern Franklin, and now southern Nash Counties are so close to one another (within 20 miles), we will continue to use Rolesville as a launch point for the forecast trajectories.
*** Some disease development is possible on Saturday in the Southeast *** On Friday, unfavorable conditions dominate the region. There is Low Risk to tobacco crops. A cold front will move through the Southeast on Saturday. Skies will be partly cloudy and there is a chance of scattered showers for many areas. There is Moderate Risk for east-central and northeast NC and extreme southeast VA. Moderate Risk also for northern FL. Low Risk elsewhere. On Sunday..... clear skies are expected over the growing regions of the Southeast, with Low Risk to commercial tobacco crops.

***** NOTE: These forecasts/outlooks only apply to disease development from airborne transport of spores!!! We do not have the capability to ascertain blue mold development by other means, such as transplanting of infected seedlings, nor will we attempt to do so.
