FORECAST DISCUSSION: Friday, March 9: *** Welcome to the 2001 Blue Mold Forecasts !!! *** We begin with four sources: one in western Cuba, one on each coast of Mexico, and one to represent any possible blue mold on the wild tobacco of southern Texas. All sources are Low Threats to the U. S. growing areas this weekend. Sunday's transport event from Cuba is being watched closely. The trajectory moves north, reaching the Florida Panhandle by midday Monday. Conditions are expected to be unfavorable for survivable transport. The potential threat will be monitored closely, however. Forecasts will be updated on Sunday if the risk to growers increases.
