FORECAST DISCUSSION: Monday, March 5: *** Welcome to the 2001 Blue Mold Forecasts !!! *** We begin with four sources: one in western Cuba, one on each coast of Mexico, and one to represent any possible blue mold on the wild tobacco of southern Texas. All of these sources are Low Threats Monday and Tuesday and represent no danger to U.S. production areas. Growers in northern FL and southern GA should take note: Trajectories on Friday and Saturday (March 2 and 3) moved north and crossed over your region. In both instances, survivable transport of spores was unlikely and there was Low Risk to growers. However, growers should be alert for any signs of disease in the off chance that any live spores were deposited during one of these events.
