FORECAST DISCUSSION: Wednesday, March 21: *** First report of blue mold from the U.S. production areas *** Tom Kucharek informs us that blue mold has been discovered in plant beds on a farm in Alachua County, in northern Florida. Transplanting is under way on this farm. Recent weather has been very favorable for blue mold, and the grower is taking aggressive steps to control the disease. This source is being added to the forecasts immediately.
*** All sources are Low Threats Wednesday and Thursday *** Localized disease development is possible in northern FL today. Conditions on the back side of the strong storm system in the mid-Atlantic region are somewhat favorable. However, trajectories from each source move away from any growing areas both days. Dry weather is expected near all but the northern FL source today, and all sources will be dry on Thursday. Other than the possibility of localized development in northern Florida, there is Low Risk to growers.
