13 June 2001 Blue Mold Forecasts

FORECAST SUMMARY: Wednesday, June 13:

*** Disease Update: 13 June *** Blue mold reports are pouring in from central and eastern NC. The number of counties with blue mold in NC is now 21. More additions appear likely. Davidson County, in the western piedmont of NC, represents the westernmost find. Please consult our updated county map for specific locations.

*** The leftovers of T.S. Allison are creating disease-favorable weather in the Carolinas and VA *** On Wednesday and Thursday, the region from southern VA southward through central and eastern sections of the Carolinas will have near-ideal conditions for disease development. Other sections in the mid-Atlantic and Southeast U.S. will have partly cloudy skies and a chance of daily showers or thunderstorms. Here are the risk assessments: There is HIGH RISK for central and eastern NC each day. South-central VA is at Strongly Moderate Risk on Wednesday, HIGH RISK on Thursday. Southwest VA and northwest NC are at Strongly Moderate Risk on Wednesday, but Low Risk on Thursday as trajectories move to the south and east. Northeast SC is at Moderate Risk both Wednesday and Thursday. To the south... southern GA is at Strongly Moderate Risk on Wednesday, Moderate Risk on Thursday. Northern FL is at Moderate Risk both days. Elsewhere, conditions in the Ohio Valley and upper mid-Atlantic regions are unfavorable for disease development, and trajectories from southern TX do not threaten other growing regions.

*** We strongly encourage growers to monitor their plants for signs of disease. Diligent scouting and prompt reporting of blue mold are essential if one wishes to derive maximum benefit from the services we provide. ***
