23 July 2001 Blue Mold Forecasts

 

FORECAST SUMMARY: Monday, July 23:

*** Forecast are abbreviated today. A weather synopsis / disease development summary follows. Trajectories from the various source areas are given below.

Eastern U. S. Weather...... High pressure sits over the region's midsection today. Two weather features will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms to some areas today and Tuesday. One is a trough of low pressure just off the Atlantic coast. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms near the Southeast and southern mid-Atlantic coasts today. Showers and thunderstorms will spread westward toward the southern Appalachian Mountains on Tuesday. The other feature is a cold front now in the Midwest. As it approaches the Ohio Valley and Northeast on Tuesday, there will be a chance of showers in those regions.... during the afternoon in the Ohio Valley and late in the day for the Northeast. Dry weather is expected elsewhere. Hot conditions are expected with highs in the 80's and 90's, lows in the upper 60's and 70's.

*** The most favorable weather will be found in the southern mid-Atlantic region Monday and Tuesday. *** On Monday.... there is Strongly Moderate Risk for eastern NC, Moderate Risk for central NC, southern VA, and northeast SC. Other growing areas are at Low Risk with dry weather expected. On Tuesday.... there is HIGH RISK for eastern and central NC, Moderate Risk for southern VA and northeast SC. There is Moderate Risk also for the southern Appalachian Mountains and the Ohio Valley region. Trajectories from those areas move slowly north on Tuesday. Low Risk continues for the upper mid-Atlantic states and the Northeast, as skies should be mostly sunny for much of the day.

*** We strongly encourage growers to monitor their plants for signs of disease. Diligent scouting and prompt reporting of blue mold are essential if one wishes to derive maximum benefit from the services we provide. ***
