FORECAST SUMMARY: Friday, August 24:

*** Forecast are abbreviated today. A weather synopsis / disease development summary follows. Trajectories from the various source areas are given below.

*** Blue mold has been reported in Canada *** Daniel Ramer informs us that blue mold was discovered in Norfolk County, southern Ontario, near the town on Delhi. Two generations of lesions are present in this small outbreak. This source is being added to the forecasts.

Eastern U. S. Weather...... High pressure is building along the east coast, and its presence will keep things dry for many areas through Sunday. Today's active weather is along the stalled front that runs from the NC/SC border westward through southern and western sections of the Ohio Valley. Remnants of this front will linger in the Ohio Valley on Saturday, causing some scattered showers, while other growing areas are dry. On Sunday, a cold front moving out of the midwest will be pushing through the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be found from the eastern Great Lakes southward through the southern Appalachian Mountains, and again in the Ohio Valley region. Highs will generally run in the 80's, lows in the 60's.

*** The Ohio Valley region will have the greatest potential for disease development this weekend. *** There is Strongly Moderate Risk for western and southern sections today, Low Risk otherwise. The entire region will be at Moderate Risk Saturday and Sunday. In the southern Appalachian Mountains.... there is Moderate Risk today, Low Risk Saturday, Moderate Risk Sunday. In southern Ontario..... Low Risk and unfavorable conditions Friday and Saturday will be followed by Moderate Risk on Sunday. Elsewhere..... from southern New England southward to eastern NC.... growing areas are at Low Risk Friday through Sunday, with the exception of southeast NC, which is at Moderate Risk on Friday.

*** We strongly encourage growers to monitor their plants for signs of disease. Diligent scouting and prompt reporting of blue mold are essential if one wishes to derive maximum benefit from the services we provide. ***
