27 April 2001 Blue Mold Forecasts

FORECAST SUMMARY: Friday, April 27:

*** Disease Update - 27 April *** An update on the source in east-central NC..... Fourteen acres, not 1 acre, were planted from the original greenhouse in Wake County. The rest of the plants were destroyed. The planted tobacco was scouted on Thursday, April 26, and no sporulation was found. This site is likely no longer a source. However, 2 nearby greenhouses in Franklin County reported blue mold. One greenhouse was confirmed, and sprays are being applied. Growers have destroyed the symptomatic plants and will transplant the others. These are minor source sites.

*** There is fair, dry weather for the source regions this weekend *** A broad area of high pressure will dominate the weather in the south-central and southeast U.S. Sporulation from field sources is unlikely, and conditions will be unfavorable for survivable transport of spores. No rain is expected near the source areas. Low Risk to commercial tobacco crops Friday through Sunday.
