25 April 2001 Blue Mold Forecasts

FORECAST SUMMARY: Wednesday, April 25:

*** Disease Update - 25 April *** At the North Carolina source..... during the weekend, the grower planted one acre of plants that appeared symptomless. The remainder of the plants from the infected greenhouses have been destroyed. A good field spray program is being maintained. This is a very weak source, and observers will continue to monitor this site closely.

*** There is unsettled weather in the Southeast today *** A cold front is moving through the region on Wednesday. Conditions are favorable for disease development. However, fortunate timing of the rain associated with this front ensures that spore release will be suppressed, and that any spores released will be quickly washed out of the air. Strongly Moderate Risk on Wednesday for crops near the source areas in east-central NC and northern FL. Low Risk to other production areas on Wednesday. On Thursday, unfavorable weather will dominate as high pressure moves in behind the front. Low Risk to all commercial tobacco areas on Thursday. Elsewhere.... Localized disease development is likely in western Cuba both days. Conditions are unfavorable in TX. These sources are Low Threats to other regions Wednesday and Thursday.
