16 April 2001 Blue Mold Forecasts

FORECAST SUMMARY: Monday, April 16:

*** Disease Update - 11 April *** The Forecast Center staff visited the site of the Rolesville, NC outbreak this afternoon. Blue mold has spread through the infected greenhouse. Diseased plants were also discovered in an adjacent greenhouse. However, the disease is advancing slowly due to an aggressive spray program by the grower. This site remains a weak source.

*** Cold air is headed south and east early this week *** A cold front moved through the Southeast on Sunday. Conditions were favorable for localized disease development in eastern NC and northern FL. A second front will move through the region Monday night. Behind this front is a tremendous dome of cold Canadian air that will engulf the southern and eastern U.S. Tuesday and Wednesday. Dry weather is expected in the Southeast Monday and Tuesday with Low Risk to growers. The sources in TX do not threaten other regions, though localized disease development is possible. Dry conditions with much-below-normal temperatures will likely be with us through Thursday.
