12 July 2000 Blue Mold Forecasts

 

FORECAST DISCUSSION: Wednesday, July 12: *** Epidemic Update: A few new reports of blue mold, plus increased activity in KY *** Bill Nesmith in KY reports that disease activity is rapidly increasing in northern and eastern KY. He also informs us of confirmed outbreaks in Gallia County, Ohio, and Cabell County, West Virginia. Blue mold has also been reported in Buncombe County, NC, in the mountain growing region.

*** Unsettled weather continues in the Carolinas, mountains, and TN/OH Valleys. *** The front that now lies across the Carolinas and the TN Valley will sag to the south today and Thursday. Showery weather is found in the lower Mid-Atlantic region westward into the TN and OH Valleys. Mixed but generally favorable conditions for disease development will persist into Thursday. Sunny and mostly dry weather will continue for the eastern Great Lakes and the Northeast Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday.... there is HIGH RISK for the southern Appalachian Mountains. There is Strongly Moderate Risk for the Carolinas, most of central and eastern KY, and western WV. There is Moderate Risk for northern KY and southern OH. On Thursday.... these same areas in the Carolinas, southern Appalachian Mountains, and OH Valley will be at Moderate Risk. In southern Ontario, eastern PA, and New England, most growers are at Low Risk both days. However, southern Ontario growers will be at Moderate Risk on Thursday as conditions become somewhat favorable.
