10 July 2000 Blue Mold Forecasts

 

FORECAST DISCUSSION: Monday, July 10: *** Epidemic Update: Widespread low levels of disease activity in KY, plus another report from the NC mountains. *** Bill Nesmith in KY informs us that blue mold has become established in the eastern half of KY and parts of southern OH. Activity levels are typcially low with a few isolated areas of more serious activity. Blue mold has been found in Ashe County, NC, the first report from that county. This outbreak is extremely small.

*** Another front is moving south from the Great Lakes. *** Unsettled weather will affect the Northeast and upper Ohio Valley today, then shift south into the mid-Atlantic states and most of the Ohio Valley on Tuesday. There is Moderate Risk for southern Ontario, southern New England, and southeast PA today. Low Risk for these areas on Tuesday. Farther south..... there is Low Risk today in the Carolinas, southern Appalachian Mountains, and for KY growers south of Lexington. There is Moderate Risk for northern KY, southern OH, and western WV where some showers are falling. Conditions will become more favorable on Tuesday. There is HIGH RISK for central and eastern KY, southern OH, and western WV. Growers in the southern Appalachian Mountains will be at Strongly Moderate Risk, while central and eastern NC will be at Moderate Risk. Unsettled weather is expected to persist in the Ohio Valley and southern mid-Atlantic regions Wednesday and Thursday.
