28 August 2000 Blue Mold Forecasts

FORECAST DISCUSSION: Monday, August 28: This will likely be our last forecast for the 2000 growing season. We want to thank the State Coordinators, County Extension Agents, and everyone associated with the Forecast Center for their efforts this year ! Season summaries for 2000 will be available during the month of September.

*** Regional Weather - Lower mid-Atlantic/TN-OH Valleys northward through the eastern Great Lakes and Northeast: High pressure situated over the Northeast will drift eastward with a continuing northeast flow along the eastern Seaboard. A weak low pressure trough in NC will slowly move southeastward and stall just off the Southeast coast. Aided by an upper-level Low moving southward through the lower mid-Atlantic, the onshore flow and the surface trough will produce clouds in the east coast states and showers both days. Most rain will be near the coast and along the eastern slopes of the mountains (where the air is forced to rise). More showers today than Tuesday. Meanwhile, southern New England, the Ohio Valley, and other sections of the southern Appalachian Mountains will be partly cloudy and dry. Southern Ontario is clear and dry today; a chance of showers enters the forecast on Tuesday as a front approaches from the west. Cool for late August in most locales, highs in the 70's and 80's, lows in the 50's to low 70's.

*** Favorable weather in the mid-Atlantic Monday and Tuesday. *** HIGH RISK today for growers from southern PA through NC; Strongly Moderate Risk for this region on Tuesday. Growers along the eastern slopes of the southern Appalachian Mountains will be at Strongly Moderate Risk both days, while other sections of the mountains will be at Low Risk. Southern New England and the Ohio Valley will be at Low Risk Monday and Tuesday. Southern Ontario growers will be at Low Risk today, Moderate Risk Tuesday.
