11 August 2000 Blue Mold Forecasts

FORECAST DISCUSSION: Friday, August 11: *** Disease Update: Jim Lamondia in CT reports that blue mold is active and spreading in Hartford County, CT. With conditions recently favorable, there are new lesions with heavy sporulation present. Fields treated with Acrobat MZ prior to infection are showing less disease with slower spread.

*** Regional Weather - Lower mid-Atlantic/TN-OH Valleys northward through the eastern Great Lakes and Northeast: A cold front now lies off the mid-Atlantic coast, then threads its way through the coastal Carolinas and across the deep South. Southern part of the front will move off the Southeast coast while the mid-Atlantic portion lingers just offhshore. A piece of energy in the upper atmosphere will dip into the mid-Atlantic region and become cut-off on Saturday, then move out slowly on Sunday. This will create a Low along the surface front offshore. The upshot.... Unsettled weather this weekend for most of the mid-Atlantic and southern New England. Growers in the lower mid-Atlantic will have more clouds than not and a chance of showers, especially Saturday. After a chance of showers today, southern Ontario will be dry Saturday and Sunday. Sunny to partly cloudy skies and dry weather all weekend for the Ohio Valley and the southern Appalachian Mountains.

*** Long-range transport should not be a significant factor this weekend. Growers in PA, MD, and southern New England will be at Strongly Moderate Risk each day. Growers in the central and eastern sections of VA and NC will be at Moderate Risk each day. The Ohio Valley and the southern Appalachian Mountains are at Low Risk this weekend. Southern Ontario growers are at Moderate Risk on Friday, Low Risk Saturday and Sunday.
