Blue mold has been confirmed in Chester County, PA. A 4-acre field near the town of Oxford is 60% infected. Mostly lower leaves are showing symptoms. Estimated date of first symptoms is July 26.

First report from KY.
Blue mold has been confirmed in Shelby County, KY. A small portion (0.5%) of a 17 acre field is affected. First symptoms estimated at July 17.

First reports from VA and MA.
Blue mold has been confirmed in Washington County, VA and Hampshire County, MA. A field near Glade Springs, VA is showing fairly new symptoms on KT 206LC. Incidence is around 5%, with active but not widespread sporulation. First symptoms estimated at July 20. Blue mold was also discovered on broadleaf tobacco near Hatfield, MA. Disease is light and appears new. First symptoms estimated at July 19.

New report from NC.
Blue mold has been confirmed in Ashe County, NC. A 1-acre field near the town of Laurel Springs is ~1% infected. Lesions have been present for some time, but dry weather had kept disease activity to a minimum. The field was planted with both burley NC 2000 and KT206LC, with lesions only found on the KT206LC. Estimated date of first symptoms is June 22.

Blue mold has been confirmed in Lee and Moore Counties, NC. Several farms in each county are infected. Incidence ranges from 2% to 5%. Plants are at various stages of growth and some have been topped. Both older and fresh lesions are present. Estimated date of first symptoms is June 14.

June 24, 2010
First report from CT.
Blue mold has been confirmed in Tolland and Hartford Counties, CT near the towns of Ellington and South Windsor. Disease was observed in both a greenhouse and in a 20 acre field 6-7 days ago and subsequently confirmed. Plants in the greenhouse, the field, and in additional acreages were destroyed. Estimated date of first symptoms is June 6.

Blue mold has been confirmed in Lancaster County, PA near the town of New Providence. Approximately 30% of a 3 acre field shows signs of infection. Plants were sprayed immediately after symptoms were first observed; lesions are currently dormant. Estimated date of first symptoms is June 14.

Blue mold has been confirmed in Duplin County, NC. About 1% of a combined 10 acress (3 fields) is infected. Lesions are few. Estimated date of first symptoms is June 8.

Blue mold has been confirmed in Wayne County, NC. About 1% of a 5 acre field is infected. Disease activity is light. Estimated date of first symptoms is May 30.

Blue mold has been confirmed in Beaufort County, NC. About 2% of a 25 acre field is showing symptoms of a recent infection (estimated date of first symptoms June 3). Lesions are new and sporulation is light.

Blue mold has been confirmed in Johnston and Nash Counties, NC. The Johnston County outbreak is in a 10 acre field near the Wilson County line. Estimated date of first symptoms is May 31. The Nash County outbreak was reported late yesterday. Scant information is available for this infection beyond the confirmation of disease. Symptoms are estimated to have started around May 30.

Blue mold has been confirmed in Martin and Edgecombe Counties, NC. Reports received over the past 2 days indicate the presence of blue mold on at least 3 different farms in Martin County. Incidence is low. Symptoms are estimated to have started around May 30. Another find exists near the Pitt-Martin Couny line, in a 15 acre field that is approximately 10% infected. Symptoms likely appeared around May 28. The Edgecombe County outbreak is in a 3 acre field of very young tobacco. Symptoms appeared around May 31. Blue mold has also been observed in another field in Wilson County of about 5 acres. Symptoms estimated at May 29.

June 1, 2010
First report of blue mold in the United States.
Blue mold was confirmed in Wilson County, NC on Friday, May 28. Severe infection was occurring in a field of burley tobacco. In an adjacent field of flue-cured tobacco, a single lesion was found on one plant. Symptoms are estimated to have appeared on May 25. The burley plants were destroyed. Sprays are beginning on the flue-cured plants. Incidence and severity are very low in the remaining plants.

Blue mold was also confirmed in a 10 acre field in Pitt County, NC on June 1, 2010. Several plants in a field of burley and a field of flue-cured are symptomatic. Symptoms likely first occurred around May 25.
