Extension Interests

Extension education responsibilities are in the area of broiler breeder and hatchery management. Informal educational programming in the area of broiler breeders include but is not limited to the areas of lighting management, mechanized nesting and proper handling of the hatching egg. Informal educational programming in the area of hatchery management include hatching egg sanitation, the production of quality chicks through optimizing hatchery operations, and the use and initiation of hatching egg quality assurance programs in a poultry operation. Additional programming involves poultry mortality disposal. Specific attention is directed to the regulatory aspects and cost effectiveness of composting, incineration, and disposal pits.

Research Interests

Current research interests focus in areas which can aid in maximizing the production of high quality chicks. These areas include maintaining embryonic viability in stored hatching eggs, as well as the production of high quality chicks through improved management of temperature, humidity, and the gaseous environment of the incubator. Secondary research interests involve maximizing light management programs for breeders and pullets.
