2010 National Poultry Waste Management Symposium |
||
Since 1988, the goal of the National Poultry Waste Management Symposium (NPWMS) organizing committee has been to provide persons working in the industry, allied industry, university and government components of the poultry system with up to date information on environmental issues and concerns, and to help define opportunities for environmental protection. The NPWMS symposia also creates opportunities for positive dialogue and understanding between members of the poultry system and regulatory agencies. Our intent has been to provide objective, science based information for consideration by members of all audiences. As in previous years, poultry system members will learn new techniques for dealing with issues related to water quality, water quantity, and air quality. Interactions with experts will enable participants to more efficiently address environmental challenges. In 2010, the Symposium will be held in cooperation with the North Carolina Animal and Poultry Waste Management Center and the National Livestock and Poultry Environmental Learning Center. We welcome your participation in this important meeting through your presentation of research that is underway (e.g., progress reports) or being reported in other venues. You will have two pages (contact Richard Reynnells if more are needed) in the peer reviewed on-site proceedings to summarize your information. Research results provided must be of the quality that can be reported in peer review journals. Conceptual or review type poster presentations will be accepted. Posters from students are encouraged. Research using commercial products are encouraged if they meet these criteria. Poster presenters are responsible for all travel and related expenses and must pay the registration fee. While no environmental topic is off limits, we will emphasize topics such as: EPA enforcement status; Air emissions – Odor and ammonia mitigation technologies; Potential carbon credits and related topics; Renewable energy standards; Management of solids: Sub-surface litter application; trenching technologies and other new technologies and products; Water management technologies; Processing waste management issues and technologies; and Environmental issues on performance: such as value of parts lost due to litter quality issues. Advertisements or commercial endorsements will not be accepted as a poster presentation, but room for this type information is available in the commercial exhibit section. Contact Dr. Michael Hulet.
