Height: 4 to 8 feet
Flower/fruit: Racemes of small white flowers; greenish white sepals look like petals; drooping cluster of green fruit ripens to dark purple-black  
Flowering Season: Summer into fall
Foliage: 5 to 12 inch broad, lance-shaped green leaves with reddish stems; tapers at both ends; strong odor when crushed
Site: Low grounds, recent clearings, roadsides, thickets
Comments: Root is poisonous
