Life Cycle: Perennial provided fallen leaves are removed from the low growing evergreen rosettes during the winter

Height: 3 to 5 feet
Flower/fruit: Terminal cluster of bright red flowers, each about 1.5 inches long; tube of stamens projects upward through a cleft in the corolla
Flowering Season: Fall - early August to mid-September
Foliage: Simple, unbranched stem; lance-shaped to narrowly egg-shaped leaves, 2 to 6 inches long; toothed on the margins
Site: Prefers moist to wet soil but will grow in average soil; prefers partial shade but will grow in full sun; found in moist meadows, thickets, swamps, and along banks of streams
Comments: Attracts hummingbirds
