Flower/fruit: Orange flowers spotted with red, usually borne in pairs on slender stalks arising from the leaf axis; flower has three sepals with the lower one extended backwards as a spur; five petals of unequal size; five stamens; pistil is composed of five united carpels; fruit is a capsule which splits explosively into five twisted parts
Flowering Season: Summer, fall
Foliage: Alternate, thin elliptic to egg-shaped leaves; coarsely toothed margins; 1.5 to 3.5 inches long
Site: Moist soil; shade
