Flower/fruit: Flowering stalk is 1 to 2 feet and almost leafless; small greenish purple bell-shaped flowers drooping from short branching stems; stamens tipped with orange anthers
Flowering Season: Spring to early summer
Foliage: Each leaf has a long stalk and grows from the base of the plant; 7 to 9 shallowly lobed, toothed and heart-shaped leaves; 3 to 4 inches wide
Site: Dry, upland woods and rocky hillsides
Comments: Root has astringent qualities
