Flower/fruit: 1.5 to 2 inch, purple-pink flower head; resembles a shaving brush; borne solitary or in groups of two or three; stiff, rigid, yellow tipped spines on the bracts
Flowering Season: Summer into fall
Foliage: Spiny, irregular, deep lobed leaves; pale or woolly underside; have bases that extend as wings along the stem
Site: Pastures, roadsides, waste places
Comments: Introduced from Europe
