Height: 8 to 15 inches
Flower/fruit: 10 to 17 white or pinkish outer petals surrounding yellow or red disk flowers; straw-colored bracts are sharply pointed, layered
Flowering Season: Summer to fall
Foliage: Usually 10 to 20 leaves below the flower cluster; tend to crowd toward the top of the stem; lower leaves are small or absent at flowering; upper leaves have a few sharp teeth
Site: Cool woods and slopes
Comments: Spreads by underground runners to form colonies
