Flower/fruit: Dense, cylindrical cluster of .5 inch creamy white flowers on top of a mostly leafless stem; persists and turn green to greenish purple with age; three beaked, dark brown capsule containing red seeds; leafless flower stalk
Flowering Season: Early summer
Foliage: 15 to 20 inch grasslike basal leaves; center rib; blunt tips
Site: Moist woods – especially oak forests, meadows, bogs, sandy soil
Comments: Contains toxic alkaloids in all parts of the plant
