Life Cycle: Perennial

Height: 1 to 2 feet
Flower/fruit: Small white flowers in a short cylindrical cluster; very small petals; sepals fall as flower opens; one pistil per flower; cluster of egg-shaped white berries with a purple spot; each berry stands on a thick, bright red stalk
Flowering Season: May to June; berries July to Oct.
Foliage: Compound terminal leaves with several stalked, sharply toothed leaflets
Site: Rich humus soil; shade 
Comments: Flowers resemble black cohosh but are in shorter, cylindrical cluster
