Ornamental Features
The Sycamore is Platanus occidentalis. The generic name Platanus means "broad," referring to the very broad leaves of the Sycamore. Another common name is Planetree, also referring to the broad shape of the leaves. Sycamores are landscape trees commonly seen growing in parks, on college campuses, around city buildings, and used as street trees. Sycamore is one of the largest native American trees. Therefore, before planting one, make sure that there is enough room for it to reach its 100 feet or so in height and breadth without causing any problems. Its growth rate is fast, so if quick shade is needed in a large area, sycamore may be just the answer.
