Foliage: Alternate, simple, lustrous dark green leaves; 1.5 to 4" long; bright green below; gradually becomes canary yellow, orange to maroon in fall
Comments: Flowers on previous season's growth; attracts bees; attractive, smooth brown bark; native to wet areas of southeastern US; suckers to form colonies
