Foliage: Alternate, simple, lustrous dark green leaves; 1 to 2 inches long; leathery, spined margins; edges of leaf are recurved under; may develop red tinge in winter
Comments: Good for rock gardens; can be used as ground cover; easy to transplant; withstands severe pruning
