Coastal Ecology
Quercus laurifolia is the Swamp laurel oak. The Swamp laurel oak differs from the Laurel oak in habitat, occurring in true, year round inundated, wetland swamps. It is found in association with Bald cypress, Swamp black gum, Red maple and Shagbark hickory. One characteristic which distinguishes Swamp laurel oak from Laurel oak is the fact that Swamp laurel oak is only semi-evergreen to tardily deciduous, here holding only a few leaves in mid February.
