Plant Description
Deciduous to seme-evergreen shrub to small tree, growing to 25 feet in height; leaves elongate elliptical; flowers in June and July, fragrant, creamy white, in elongate finger-like clusters; fruits maturing in late summer, tiny round brown capsules in drooping clusters.
Ornamental Characteristics
White, showy flowers; nice yellow to gold fall color.
Landscape Use
As a small specimen tree, in the shrub border, as a screen in wet areas.

None.
Availability/Propagation
Not commonly available, transplant from the wild (with permission), sow seeds in fall, stem cuttings root easily.
Culture
Full sun to partial shade, moist, acidic soils.
Coastal Ecology
Swamp cyrilla is a facultative wetland species which is extremely abundant along the coast in wet, swampy fresh water areas such as roadside ditches, creek banks and pocosins, where it can form an impenetrable tangle.
