Now What Is This All About?
Hands-on workshops, panel discussions, distinguished speakers, and open discussion will help you discover how government impacts your everyday life, and how you can impact government in return. You will learn about state government, learn about working with public officials, hear from prominent North Carolina officials, and visit legislators.

Before the conference, you will gather key information about youth issues, local government, and community needs in your county. At the conference, you'll put this info together with your new knowledge to create a community-based citizen action plan to implement after you return home.

Participants are expected to:

  • Be at least 14 years old as of January 1, 2006
  • Demonstrate interest in citizen involvement and/or local issues
  • Have experience and/or interest in speaking before groups of peers
  • Take a leadership role in their communities
  • Wear business attire during most of the 3 day conference
  • Attend the entire event from mid-day on June 11 to the afternoon of June 13
  • Gather key info about local issues and government prior to arrival
  • Create and implement a local citizen action plan as a result of this conference

    What Does It Cost?
Registration fees are $100.00 per youth, including 2 nights lodging and meals during the conference. (The remaining cost is covered by donors and other funding sources.) Talk with your local 4-H professional to see if further sponsorship is available from your county or other organizations.
