Transactional and Transformational:
Two Basic Leadership Behaviors

.
| Designed and Developed By |

Leaders vary from one another in how they work collaboratively toward a shared vision. What’s more, the same leader may use a variety of different leadership behaviors and techniques to effectively work with others.

There is no single “best” leadership approach or technique that all leaders should use in working with others in all situations. In fact, one leadership approach that many leaders use is called situational leadership and it is based on two factors: (1) the type of task the leader and team must complete, and (2) the type of relationship between the leader and team members.

All leaders should be familiar with two basic leadership behaviors: transactional leadership and transformational leadership.

By the End of this Module, You Will:
(1)
Understand the similarities and differences between transactional leadership and transformational leadership behaviors.
(2)
Identify and describe leadership situations for which each behavior is more appropriate.
(3)
Apply the concepts to your 4-H, school and community leadership roles.
