Leadership Stylin’

Take the time to work through the following three exercises designed to help you build on your knowledge of different leadership styles. When possible, you may want to do your work online and then print it. Or, you may choose to print each worksheet and then complete it by hand. Whatever your choice, once you’ve finished each exercise remember to print a copy of your work (or at least save it to a file so that you may print it in the future) for your 4-H Leadership Portfolio.

Have fun!

Prior Life Experiences Exercise 1:
A Matter of Style

Look at photographs of your family members, both past and present. Note the different styles of clothing that they are wearing. You might ask family members to dress in their favorite clothes and photograph them. If you do not have access to a camera, make copies of family photos or cut out pictures from old magazines showing actors, musicians, or other famous people wearing different styles of clothes.

Tape your photos or magazine art onto a piece of poster board. Label each photo or picture with the style of clothing represented. Write a short paragraph describing each clothing style, explaining what makes it distinctive.

Prior Life Experiences Exercise 2:
Hot Wheels!

Over the next week, notice and record the different styles and models of transportation that your family members, friends, and neighbors use. (Note: You need not limit your observations to automobiles. Be inclusive and creative)! If you have access to a camera, ask each individual if you may take a photo of him/her with his/her favorite mode of transportation.

If you took photos, tape them to a piece of poster board and label each one with the owner’s name and the mode and style of transportation represented.

Write a short paragraph describing each individual’s preferred styles of transportation. What do you think they base their preference on? For example, is it personal choice, the type of work they do, the tasks they perform on a regular basis.

Before continuing in this module, go to your Reflection Journal, record the date, and enter your descriptive paragraphs of each person and his/her mode of transportation.

To Each His Own
During the course of the next week, consider several different people (at home, at school, in the community, etc.) with whom you have some type of relationship. Write a brief paragraph describing what your relationship is with each individual. What makes each relationship unique?

Before continuing in this module, go to your Reflection Journal, record the date, and enter your descriptive paragraphs for each relationship you identified.
