Leadership Stylin’
.

 

Each of us has his/her unique style. We each dress individually, have different foods that we like best, prefer some types of music over others and “move to the groove” with our own dance steps.

In other modules, you learned about different roles that we may each play in a team setting, and about different types of leaders. Now, let’s explore different leadership styles that each of us, as individual leaders, tends to prefer when working with others toward a common goal.

A leadership style is defined as “the consistent behavior pattern that [a leader uses] when he/she is working with and through other people, as perceived by those people” (Hersey, Blanchard, and Johnson, 2001, p. 145). Just as you have your own personal style regarding many personal things in life (clothes, cars, foods, etc.), you also have your own style of leadership that you tend to prefer over others.

By the End of this Module, You Will:

Identify your preferred style as a leader.

Reflect on your leadership styles in different leadership situations.

Photographs of your friends and family members, or pictures clipped from magazines, showing people dressed in different clothing styles
Two sheets of poster board
Glue or tape
Copies of “Leadership – It’s Your Choice” survey and pencils (if not completing the survey online)
  Digital Camera (optional)
  Your Reflection Journal 
  Your TRY-IT Personal Leadership Portfolio
