Exploring Leadership,
as an Individual and as a Team!

   
Challenger:
a team member who likes to model the “devil’s advocate” to establish team norms of candor and openness (Parker, 1990).
   
Collaborator:
a team member who likes to emphasize the “big picture” view of the team’s purpose, focus on the team’s mission and goals, and pitch in and provide help wherever needed (Parker, 1990).
   
Communicator:
a team member who is known for his/her participative management style, and for creating positive work environments and a “family” atmosphere (Parker, 1990).
   
Contributor:
a team member who likes to structure the operations of the team to solve technical problems easily (Parker, 1990).
   
Leader:
someone who influences others; someone who gets others excited about working together towards common goals.
   
Leadership:
“The art of mobilizing others to want to struggle for shared aspirations” (Kouzes and Posner, 1995, p. 30).
   
Team:
a group of diverse individuals working together towards a common goal.
   
Vision:
a positive, inspiring and ideal mental image or “picture” of the future.
