T.E.A.M.
Together, Each Accomplishes More!
Continue
here after Retreat I |
Now
that you
and your team members have
participated in "Retreat I" complete this section
to continue with this module |
| |
Now
that you have considered some new ideas and have had a chance to practice
them, it's time to put them to work! complete at least one of the
following exercises that will challenge you to apply and expand these
new ideas to other aspects of your family, school, and/or community. |
Application
and Expansion Exercise 1: |
| Do
You Agree? |
| |
Take
some time and look again at your results from the Roles
We Play On Teams
survey. Reread the descriptions in this module for each of the four
roles on teams, and then think about what your survey scores suggest
about you. |
| |
Compose
a Letter
to the Survey Developer |
| |
Now,
go to your Reflection
Journal, record the date, and write a brief letter
to Mr. Parker explaining whether you agree or disagree with how
the survey scores depict your team-player style. Refer to Individuals’
Roles on Teams – Supplemental Information Sheet
for help (click
here to retrieve). Describe how well you think
the survey assessed your actual strengths and weaknesses for each
of the four roles. Print a copy of your letter to add to your TRY-IT Personal Leadership Portfolio. |

Application
and Expansion Exercise 2: |
| Using
the Survey with One of Your Teams. |
| |
Stop
and think about a four- to five-member of which you are a member.
It could be a school project team, a working committee at your place
of worship, a 4-H team, or some other team. (Note: For this particular
exercise, a sports team is not the best choice, although the exercise
may be done with a sports team if you include the coach.)
At a team meeting,
ask your fellow team members if they’d agree to participate
in Roles We Play on Teams –
A Quick Survey. Explain that by taking the
survey, all of you may better understand one another and the individual
strengths each of you brings to your team. Remember to include your
team’s coach, advisor, or leader.
If the team
agrees, make copies of the survey (click
here or below for a PDF file of the survey)
for each member. At the meeting, explain how to complete the survey,
and answer any questions about the survey. Then, let your fellow
team members have time to complete and self-score their surveys
using the Scoring Sheet. (Note: If you completed your survey online,
the computer scored your test for you, so be certain to study the
manual Scoring Sheet so you may answer questions about it. You may
want to take the survey again using a paper copy so you will know
how it works.) |
| |
After
everyone has completed the survey and calculated his/her scores, distribute
copies of Individuals’ Roles
on Teams – Supplemental Information Sheet
or below to retrieve) to each team member. Lead a discussion
of each role in detail, share your scores, and invite your fellow
team members to discuss how they either support or disagree with how
the survey assessed their respective strengths and weaknesses in each
of the four roles. |
| |
Once
you return home, go to your Reflection
Journal, enter the date, and write a summary of the
meeting. Describe how your fellow team members either agreed or disagreed
with their survey results. Discuss how knowing each member’s
results could help strengthen the team’s work together. |

.

|
Application
and Expansion Exercise 3: |
| Designing
a Dream Team |
| |
Think
of a challenge, task, or job that you might face and how you could
master it by using teamwork. Use the survey results to help you
evaluate what aspects of the job you would be good at and which
roles might best be filled by another team member.
Using the guidelines
below, design a four-person Dream Team, including yourself, that
would be perfect at meeting your challenge. You may want to identify
real people (celebrities or someone you actually know) who have
traits that you need to complement your skills and compensate for
your weaknesses. |
| The
challenge I’ve decided to address is: |
______________________________________________________ |
| |
My
strengths in addressing the challenge, in each of the four team-player
roles include: |
| |
|
1.
|
Contributor: |
_____________________ |
| |
|
2.
|
Collaborator: |
_____________________ |
| |
|
3.
|
Communicator: |
_____________________ |
| |
|
4.
|
Challenger: |
_____________________ |
| |
However,
I’m not as strong at the following aspects of addressing the
challenge, in each of the four team-player roles, and my weaknesses
include: |
| |
|
1.
|
Contributor: |
_____________________ |
| |
|
2.
|
Collaborator: |
_____________________ |
| |
|
3.
|
Communicator: |
_____________________ |
| |
|
4.
|
Challenger: |
_____________________ |
Therefore,
I need the following three fellow Dream
Team members to help me with the specific aspects I’ve identified.
|
| Dream
Team Fellow Member 1: |
_____________________ |
| Dream
Team Fellow Member 2: |
_____________________ |
| Dream
Team Fellow Member 3: |
_____________________ |
| |
|
| |
Remeber
to print a copy of your Dream Team sheet and add it to your Collection
Porfolio. Then, go to your Reflection
Journal, enter the date, and add your refections on
your responses to these Dream Team members. |
