Making landfall on the morning of
August 29, Hurricane Katrina left a path of destruction that will be felt by
millions for years to come. With no power, no water, no food and the remaining
floodwaters, the affected communities in the Gulf Coast states are faced with
recovery issues.
Our 4-H friends across the country helped us during our
time of need during the most recent: Floyd, Fran & Isabel. 4-H Clubs,
4-H'ers, Individuals, Volunteers and County Agents contributed the much needed
essential supplies including cash donations, to North Carolina during
our time of need. Supplies and money from our 4-H family across the country
was sent directly to our families in need.
North Carolina 4-H would like
to ask that you help our fellow 4-H families in the Gulf States by agreeing to
do one of the following things as a service project in your community. We will
be asking you to select one or more of the following ways to assist these Gulf
States. Our supplies and money will be sent directly to 4-H
and Extension families in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Let's help the many Extension and 4-H families who have lost their homes and or
personal belongings.
For the next two weeks our immediate goals are
being focused around four ways we can help:
State 4-H Vice President Venson Greene and Wake
County 4-H'er Ashley Kirby present President Bill Clinton with Clover Packets
and Essential Kits for the Gulf Coast Region. President Clinton told Venson and
Ashley he would make sure to take them with him on his next trip to hand out to
families in need.
We would like to ask
that you select a coordinator per county/per district to communicate with our
state team so that we can keep track of what we are doing to help our 4-H
Families. Contact person at NC 4-H is:
