North Carolina 4-H Presentation Guidelines:
Safety

Purpose/Objectives:

  • To encourage and stimulate safe living in the home and in the community

  • To promote safety awareness among people at all times

  • To provide leadership for safety education and assist in promoting safety activities among all community residents.

Eligibility:

Individuals or teams may compete.
  • 9-10 - 4-H'er must be 9 years old prior to January 1 of the current year and not have reached their eleventh burthday before January 1 of the current year.

  • 11-13 - 4-H'er must be eleven years old prior to January 1 of the current year and not have reached their fourteenth birthday before January 1 of the current year.

  • 14-18 - 4-H'er must be fourteen years of age prior to January 1 of the current year, and not have reached their nineteenth birthday before January 1 of the current year.

Presentation Ideas:

  • How to care for a burn victim
  • How to make a home first aid kit
  • How to prepare food for a safe picnic
  • How to prepare a snack for traveling or outdoor activities
  • How to be prepared for babysitting
  • How to provide medical treatments for bites, stings, or other injuries
  • Safety around the home and farm.
  • How to contact emergency care providers
  • Fire Safety
  • Electrical safety
  • School Bus Safety
  • Kids Identification
  • Pesticide Safety

  • Hospitals, Doctors, Nurses, Teachers, Firemen
  • Internet searches
  • Electricians, etc.

Suggestions/Helpful Hints:

  • Use good visuals.
  • Be prepared to answer questions.
  • Clearly explain what the specific safety reference is to your presentation.


Judging:

  • Judges will review each presentation and complete a judge's score sheet.
  • Judges will use their own discretion as to whether questions will or will not be asked.
  • Judges decisions will be final.
Awards: District Winners -Certificates for each Division Winner

State Winners - $25.00 award for each Division Winner
