Objective 10:
School based youth educators and administrators will be actively engaged in the
design, delivery and revisions of programs, which enrich school-based curriculum
design and delivery; resulting in improved academic performance.
Target Audiences
Classroom teachers would be the primary audience for agents.
Students would be the primary audience of teachers trained by agents.
Teaching Points
It is important that agents embrace and train against a methodology for learning
that meets the three criteria proposed by researchers: interest, engagement,
and relevance (Silver, Strong and Perini, 2000). Agents to would train teachers
to:
present information without lecture or demonstration
understand the importance of allowing time for child to share the experience
dig deeper into the experience to bring out feelings of the student
as well as methodologies that illustrate how the student may have approached
the problem differently
understand and demonstrate the importance of showing relevance to the
students early in the experience
create a learning environment which allowed students to see applications
both within the subject matter being study as well as future applications.
Program Delivery Strategies
Most training for agents would be delivered through phase 1 and phase 2 training
sessions. Agents would then be responsible for the training of teachers at the
local level, although teachers may attend agent training if requested by the
agent.
