Steps to Health: Cook Smart Eat Smart for High School

Steps to Health: Cook Smart Eat Smart for High School serves high school students across North Carolina. The 2010-2011 program reaches 5 schools in 5 counties.

Cook Smart Eat Smart for High School is comprised of 9 sessions from the Cook Smart Eat Smart curriculum. Lessons were re-structured to teach high school students how to prepare simple, healthy and delicious foods.  Each session contains several basic cooking techniques and other topics related to eating and preparing meals at home. The program also provides tips for stretching one’s food dollar, food safety, reading a nutrition label, buying meat and portion control.

Recipes and nutrition handouts are given to program participants. Evaluation of the lessons include a pre and post nutrition knowledge survey.
