TERMITE PREVENTION - APPROACHES FOR NEW CONSTRUCTION

Michael Waldvogel - Extension Entomology

Insect Note - ENT/rsc-24

The way in which homes are built impacts on the likelihood of termite invasion. During construction, we often create conditions that are conducive to termites or may allow them to enter the house unseen. There are a number of steps that can be taken during renovations and new construction to help reduce the likelihood of termite problems. Here are some examples:

Current options for treating homes under construction
Aboveground Foundation Barriers
Termite Resistant Building Materials
Mechanical Inground Foundation Barriers
Earth-filled Porches (image intensive, may load slowly)
Post-Construction Tips on Termite Prevention

Regardless of what methods you select for termite prevention, frequent (preferably annual) and thorough inspections of your home are important to protecting your home from termite attack.
