A Graphical Method for Determining Risk of a Blueberry Maggot Infestation
To determine the probability of infestation, you need the following field information:
- Bush spacing within row (Distance from bush to bush, in feet)
- Alley width (Distance from row to row in feet)
- Average bush diameter (in feet)
- Average bush height (in feet)
Instructions:
- Step 1.
- Multiply Bush Spacing (A) by Alley Width (B) to determine the ground
area between bushes in square feet (E).
- Step 2.
- On the upper graph, find the point where your square foot value (E) and
your Bush Diameter (C) intersect.
- Step 3.
- Follow the nearest curved line down to the lower graph and keep going
until you reach the horizontal line corresponging to your Bush Height (D).
- Step 4.
- The nearest diagonal line gives the probability of a maggot infestation
for an unirrigated blueberry field in southeastern North Carolina.
