Choosing a
Fire Ant Insecticide
For Turf and Ornamentals

About This Tool

There are dozens of registered fire ant insecticides for turf, ornamentals, landscape and nursery sites. Some are baits, some are direct poisons, some are for mound treatment and some are for broadcast, some are for licensed applicators only. This tool is designed to help the applicator, whether a homeowner or professional, determine which products are suitable for a particular site.

Use this tool to select a site where you wish to treat for fire ants. Products will be listed that may be used on that site. Do not use any products around fruits and vegetables unless labelled for such. Cost of application can vary greatly so compare prices.

  • Not every fire ant pesticide or formulation is listed in this tool.
  • Not every specific site is listed, check the label for information on minor sites such as "rights of way".
  • Check the label of a product you intend to use. The label supercedes any information found in this tool.
  • Your computer will need an internet connection to view labels and fact sheets.
  • Your computer will need a PDF reader application or plug-in.
  • Your computer will need a recent version of Java.
