Development of Land Use Change Indicators to Support Watershed Based Restoration
Very little is understood with regards to the effects of land use change and bacterial loading. This effort reports on approach to measure change to land cover and relate it to bacterial loading rates examining vegetative clearing, ditching, and impervious surface areas over the last 30 years.

White Oak River BMP Demonstration 319 Project
This project partners NC Cooperative Extension Service SOD, BAE, ARE, Onslow, Carteret, and Jones Counties, Shellfish Sanitation, NC-DENR- SWC, NRCS, Town of Jacksonville, Duke Marine Lab, and several private citizens, farmers, and corporate interests to investigate the impacts of various land uses on water quality and testing BMPs to mitigate those impacts. Sites include horticultural crop farm, residential urban watershed, downtown commercial, animal growing operation, and large ñscale crop farm. Educational efforts will include tours, fact sheets, and presentations to local government officials. Project builds upon and coordinates with WECO, Environmental Indicators, and Jumping Run Creek. Funded by NC-DENR-DWQ.

Evaluating the Efficiencies of Temporary Sediment Controls for Protecting Water Quality.
This project is investigating the effectiveness of temporary sediment trapping devices on two construction sites ñ one in Brunswick County and one in Wake. Monitoring data will be collected and used to develop models to investigate design options to improve device specifications. Cooperating partners include NC-CES departments of SOD, BAE; Brunswick County, Wake County, Duke Marine Lab, Milliken Company (Developer), Town of Shallotte, WW Partners (Developer), Ferrell Land Development Company, and Town of Cary. Funding is provided by NC-DENR-DLQ, S&E Commission.

Techniques to Restore Shellfish Resources in Jumping Run Creek
This project is a watershed-based effort to investigate urban planning and design techniques that can be implemented to restore watershed hydrology and reduce shellfish closures. Cooperating partners include neighborhood businesses and citizens, Sea Grant, NC-CES SOD, BAE, Carteret County, NC-DENR-Shellfish Sanitation, Duke Marine Lab. Funded by NC-CWMTF.
