Project: Murphy Charrette
Date: March 23 - 25
Location: Town of Murphy, NC

The Town of Murphy and Cooperative Extension Services hosted a team of Landscape Architecture students from the School of Design, NCSU and NC A&T to develop plans for the revitalization of Downtown Murphy.

The students and faculty met with town citizens and business leaders for a brainstorming session the evening of the 23rd. The morning of the 24th, students met with elected officials, and toured downtown Murphy. Friday afternoon the students started their drawings and worked through the night. The charrette generated plans for downtown and its connections to the surrounding natural resources, the town's historical context and traffic corridors. A public presentation was made to the town the afternoon of March 25th.

The drawings and programmatic materials will be documented in the summer of 2000. This document will be an insert in The Cherokee Scout, the Murphy paper.
