About NC NEMO
NC NEMO (Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials) is an educational program designed for local land use officials to address the relationship of land use and natural resource protection. The program targets counties and municipalities, addressing regionally specific needs by focusing on the link between land use and water quality. We also encourage local governments to think about land use and natural resources at a watershed level.
Our Mission:
To provide education, assistance, and in-ground projects that build local capacity to protect and improve our water resources while enhancing economic development and improving our quality of life.
Our Goals:
- Critical natural resources and habitat protected.
- Development sited where it is most environmentally appropriate.
- Water quality sensitive developments [LID] in the ground.
NC NEMO is modeled after the successful NEMO program of the University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension and is part of the National NEMO Network. The National NEMO network is a nation-wide network of educational programs teaching local land use decision makers about the relationship between land use and natural resource protection.
