WECO is partnering with the Natural Resources Leadership Institute to help the City of Raleigh Department of Parks and Recreation to complete and evaluate their new Public Participation Program for Parks Planning, which was developed by Steve Smutko and Mary Lou Addor in collaboration with staff and based on a thorough analysis of the former public involvement processes.
In 2012-2013, WECO and NRLI are helping the Department to evaluate their first formal application of the new program with the Chavis Park Community Conversation. From that project's website:
Chavis Park has a rich history in the City of Raleigh and is a valued community resource. The Raleigh Parks & Recreation Department is organizing the Chavis Park Community Conversation to develop a shared vision for the park’s future. The Community Conversation will engage the public and community leaders to identify improvements to the park, and develop a mutual understanding and respect of both the history and the future of the park and the role of the park in the community. The project will result in an adoptable, implementable Revised Master Plan for Chavis Park.
Visit the Chavis Park Community Conversation website for updates on that planning process. You can also register on to receive email updates on the planning process at that site.
